Rochdale have signed Grimsby left-back Joe Widdowson on a free transfer.
The 21-year-old invoked a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave the Mariners following their relegation from the Football League.
The former West Ham trainee made 61 appearances for Grimsby after joining them from the Hammers in 2009, initially on loan.
Widdowson joins Brian Barry-Murphy at Dale after the 31-year-old midfielder's switch from Bury last week.
Meanwhile, Dale goalkeeper Matty Edwards, 19, has signed a six-month contract extension.
