Defender Ian Harte targets Reading promotion

New Reading signing Ian Harte says he wants to help the side achieve promotion to the Premier League.

The 33-year-old former Leeds defender arrived at the Madejski Stadium from Carlisle on transfer deadline day.

He told BBC Berkshire: "Obviously, they've only just dropped out of the Premier League a few years ago and I want to help get the club back there.

"The most important thing is the team pushing up the table and getting as many points as we can."

He added: "It's essential that we work as a team so whoever does take to the field in the starting 11 is supported well by the rest of the team."

Harte, who can play at left-back and centre-back, says he is also hoping to continue his goal scoring form in the Championship.

"It'll be nice if I could score at least half the amount I scored last season," he said.

"I got nine headers, some penalties and a few free-kicks so hopefully I can continue doing the same for Reading."
