Reading chairman Sir John Madejski has hinted that caretaker manager Brian McDermott will be given the job on a permanent basis.
McDermott took charge of the Royals when Brendan Rodgers left the Madejski Stadium in December.
Madejski told BBC Berkshire: "Brian, [reserve team coach] Nigel Gibbs and [director of football] Nick Hammond have done an incredible job.
"The form speaks for itself. We'll make an announcement when we're ready."
Rodgers, who joined Reading from Watford in June, left after just six months in charge with the club struggling in the Championship.
McDermott has seen the Royals draw two and lose one of his three league games in charge to remain in trouble, just one place and two points above the relegation zone.
But the 48-year-old did preside over the 2-1 FA Cup third round replay win over Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.
