Wilson has been a regular in Rangers' first team

Rangers defender Danny Wilson could miss the remainder of the season after suffering injury in a bounce game against Celtic on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, who has attracted interest from Liverpool and other English clubs, strained a muscle.

And a scan on Friday will determine whether he is likely to miss out on Rangers' final four league matches.

Wilson was David Weir's regular partner in the centre of defence until Madjid Bougherra's return from injury.

The graduate of Rangers' youth system has made 22 appearances after breaking into the first team this season.

However, he was back on the bench for Sunday's 2-0 win over Hearts.

And he was given a run-out in Wednesday's game, which featured two sides fielding a number of first-team fringe players and was won by Celtic courtesy of a single goal by Morten Rasmussen.

The match at Rangers' Murray Park training ground had been arranged after Celtic's friendly against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar was postponed for a week because of the travel chaos caused by the Icelandic cloud of volcanic dust.

Wilson has a year of his contract yet to run but has stalled on signing a contract extension despite negotiations with the club.

Liverpool appear to be leading the chase for his signature, but Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Manchester City are also thought to be interested.
