Rangers have had Adam watched during his time with Blackpool
Walter Smith expects Charlie Adam to return to Ibrox, despite Blackpool caretaker boss Tony Parkes saying he wants to keep the on-loan player.
Adam, 23, has been with Blackpool since January and Parkes has targeted the midfielder as a permanent signing.
But Rangers manager Smith said: "Once the Championship finishes this weekend, he will be back with us.
"So, like every other player on the staff, he will be with us next season unless something else comes along."
Adam had struggled to play as regularly under Smith as he had during the reign of previous Rangers managers.
"He seems to have played very well," said Smith of Adam's time on loan in England's Championship.
"We've had people down watching him on a couple of occasions and he has played very well in those games."
Parkes said that Adam was keen to remain with Blackpool and the caretaker boss was hopeful that a fee could be agreed between the clubs.
Meanwhile, Smith would not comment on quotes attributed to Hermann Hreidarsson's agent that Rangers are one of the possible destinations for the 34-year-old Portsmouth defender at the end of the season.
