Boyd delighted with Gers century

Rangers striker Kris Boyd
Boyd reached a milestone with his Hampden strike

Striker Kris Boyd was pleased to reach a century of goals following his strike in Rangers' 3-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over St Mirren.

Boyd, who turned down a move to Birmingham in January, took his season's tally to 29 at Hampden.

"I'm delighted to get there but the most important thing get the victory and get to the final," the 25-year-old told BBC Scotland.

"When I got to 50, I wanted 100. I've got to 100 and I want more."

Rangers have continued to rely on the goals of the former Kilmarnock forward since the collapse of his proposed move to the Championship and Boyd has hinted that he sees his long-term future at Ibrox.

He added: "For me to finish my career at Rangers and keep going the way it has started, I would be delighted with that."

Ally McCoist holds Rangers' all-time scoring record with 355 in all competitions and the assistant manager was full of praise for Boyd following the win over Saints.

"It's a sensational record," McCoist told BBC Scotland. I thought he earned his goal today.

"His overall play was unselfish. He linked up well with people, he took his fair share of kicks and and he won his fair share of headers against two big strong centre-backs. I'm delighted for him.

"I watch him in training and I might be able to tell him where to go, how to handle defenders and with his movement but I do not think I could tell Kris Boyd how to score a goal.

"It was an average game. Both sets of players struggled to control the ball and were slipping about on the pitch. The standard of football was poor.

"For an hour, our use of the ball was very poor but we were solid enough. For the last half hour, the vast improvement in our game was there for everybody to see.

"We took our goals really well and we're looking forward to tomorrow's semi-final to see who we play here in May. It's great that we're coming back."

Ranegrs midfielder Pedro Mendes
Mendes lasted only 41 minutes against St Mirren

Meanwhile, Rangers will need to wait before discovering the extent of Pedro Mendes' thigh injury.

The Portuguese playmaker was stretchered off before half-time following a challenge by Will Haining.

"That was a sore one," McCoist added.

"He's got ice on it, he's got the whole thing strapped up and he's in a lot of pain.

"The doctor has had a look at him but we'll be better placed in the next 48 hours to see how he is."

But McCoist was keen to stress that St Mirren had not adopted overly aggressive tactics at the national stadium.

"I don't think for a minute that St Mirren are a dirty team," McCoist said.

"The ironic thing is we have had three players carried off against them in the last two games, Papac, Beasley and obviously Mendes.

"They are a physical team and they play hard and it's just unfortunate.

"Pedro is very sore but the immediate reaction is that there is no ligament damage and hopefully that is the case."
