By Colin Moffat

1420: That's all for me today folks. Thanks for all your comments and enjoy the rest of your Saturday. I'll be in the hot seat again for tomorrow's semi-final, when Falkirk and Dunfermline lock horns.

1415: Ally McCoist says he was unhappy with Rangers' passing for an hour but the assistant manager is delighted to be in the final.

1413: "People will say that there's no way Rangers can lose the final against lower class opposition like Falkirk or Dunfermline, but just remember our games against QoS and St Johnstone last year. It's not won yet." Philosophical_weegie forgets that Rangers did win those games last season, after a few scares, right enough.

1409: Full-time: Rangers 3-0 St Mirren
A very early goal set up an easy victory for Walter Smith's men who may not have broken sweat if the sun hadn't been out at Hampden.

Congratulations to Kris Boyd for knocking in his 100th goal for Rangers. However, he had a fairly quiet game, with midfielders Steven Davis and Maurice Edu catching the eye for the winners.

1405: Maurice Edu, who has been doing a fine job in the heart of the Rangers midfield, blazes a strike narrowly wide after his first effort is blocked on the edge of the penalty area.

1402: I'll take a break from reading texts about the Americas Cup being the oldest sporting trophy to inform you that Nacho Novo has scorched a shot high over the crossbar.

1358: Goal-centurion Kris Boyd makes way for youngster Andy Little as Rangers begin the canter towards the finish line.

1356: St Mirren gamely force a couple of corners but nothing is going the way of the Paisley side and the play is quickly down at the other end, where Mark Howard has to smother a low strike from Nacho Novo.

1354: "The original Scottish Cup is in the Hampden museum so the teams aren't actually playing for the world's oldest trophy. Sorry to be so pedantic!" Brian Campbell, Gourock via text on 80295 .

To be fair to John in Glasgow (1316), he did make that point, only for me to ruthlessly chop it out...

1352: Mark Howard spreads himself well to stop a Kenny Miller shot from point-blank range. The St Mirren defence is all over the place.

1350: "All the credit goes to Steven Davis - responsible for the set up off all three goals, definite man of the match." It's hard to argue with memnoch666 on My Sport.

1348: "There are some bedraggled Saints fans heading for the exits. A few can still raise a song but it's a very few." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

1345: Goal - Rangers 3-0 St Mirren
Steven Davis is again involved in the thick of the action as he nods the ball back to Kenny Miller , who guides a volley low into the corner of the net from eight yards.

1342: Goal - Rangers 2-0 St Mirren
The Buddies are caught on the break and Steven Davis plays through Kris Boyd , who calmly slots a shot beyond Mark Howard. That brings up a century Rangers goals for the prolific Boyd!

1336: That's a bit of a surprise. Goal-scorer Andrius Velicka doesn't look to impressed when he's asked to leave the field, with Kenny Miller coming on as a substitute.

1334: Dennis Wyness spins away nicely from David Weir but his shot lacks power and is easily snaffled up by Rangers keeper Neil Alexander.

1330: Colin McKenzie , via text, and woodysj on My Sport deserve a mention for also getting the Durand Cup answer. Al was quickest off the mark though...

1327: Suddenly it's all go. Andrius Velicka fires a shot into the arms of Mark Howard and Stephen McGinn fizzes one wide at the other end. This is more like it.

1326: Steven Whittaker gets a stud or two to the ball with a sliding challenge and stops the progress of Andy Dorman on the edge of the Rangers penalty box.

1325: Scott Cuthbert gets away with a moment of indecision as keeper Mark Howard races out to gather and prevent Andrius Velicka from capitalising on the St Mirren defender's mistake.

1322: The second half is underway.

1321: Congratulations to Al from Elgin, who sent the correct answer to my half-time teaser via text on 80295 . It is the Durand Cup, which is played for in India.

1319: "Can't decide who I want to win this one. European football next season or a better shot at actually winning the cup? Assuming all goes well tomorrow! Falkirk fan Lanky-ffc is a man torn over on My Sport.

1316: "The Scottish Cup is the second oldest tournament but the trophy itself is the oldest in the world." John, Glasgow reminds us via text on 80295 .

1311: "Can't imagine Andrius Velicka 'speeding' past anyone to be honest! I'll need to see it before I believe it Mr Moffat." Regular contributor DavidAttenborough takes a break from pestering endangered species to cast doubt on the accuracy of my offerings.
Join the debate on My Sport I think it's simply a case of slow-Mo...

1307: Here's a wee half time teaser for you. The Scottish Cup is the second oldest tournament in the world, behind the FA Cup, but what competition comes third on the list?

1304: Half-time: Rangers 1-0 St Mirren
The early goal failed to ignite what has been a really tame affair so far. Rangers look very comfortable at the back, with the St Mirren front two lacking in menace.

1302: "Mo Camara was let off the hook just then. He was caught ball-watching as Velicka sped past him." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

1300: Andrius Velicka races away from Buddies full-back Mo Camara but the goal-scorer slashes his strike horribly wide from a promising position.

1259: St Mirren keeper Mark Howard does just enough to flap away a corner under pressure from a cluster of Rangers players.

1256: The Portuguese midfielder looks in real distress as he's carried off the field. Nacho Novo is on as a replacement for Mendes.

1254: Pedro Mendes is writhing around on the turf after taking a real cruncher on the knee from Will Haining. The stretcher is being called for.

1252: Stevie Smith goes for a big swinger with his right foot on the edge of the penalty area and the ball flies straight up into the sky before St Mirren clear their lines.

1248: Christian Dailly picks up the first booking of the game after a reckless lunge at Stephen McGinn. The former Scotland defender can be forgiven for being be a bit rusty, having spent most of the season playing reserve football.

And what about his hairstyle? He's one of those guys who deserves respect for sticking with the same look throughout his career.

1247: "Will Haining and Scott Cuthbert look really caught in the headlights just now." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg is not impressed by the St Mirren central defensive partnership.

1245: "I was 13 years old when the Buddies won the Scottish Cup for the second time. I thought this may be their year but not now." A 63-year-old Billy from Cromer, Norfolk has thrown in the towel early via text on 80295 .

1240: Rangers' top-scorer Kris Boyd, yet to net in this cup run, flashes a header wide from a good Christian Dailly delivery.

1239: "Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu is lucky to get away with a slap on Stephen McGinn as the pair square up to each other." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

1236: Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist is out on the edge of the park roaring at the players to play a higher line. Meanwhile, there are now a few choruses of 'When the Saints go Marching in' coming from the Paisley supporters.

1233: The Buddies finally string a few passes together and Steven Thomson warms the fingertips of Neil Alexander with a swerving drive from distance.

1229: BBC Radio Scotland pitch-side reporter Chick Young says St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson has ordered the kit-man to get a new pair of boots for captain Hugh Murray, who is struggling with the slippery surface.

1227: Rangers playmaker Pedro Mendes tries his luck with a shot from 22 yards but Mark Howard gets down smartly to push it wide.

1225: The St Mirren players look utterly bewildered at the moment. They just can't get any passing going at all but Rangers don't appear to be going for the quick kill. It's all strangely lethargic.

1222: "The pitch has been heavily watered and I think one or two players are really struggling as a result of that." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg. There are a few chaps slipping and sliding on the Hampden turf.

1220: "The St Mirren fans around me are painfully silent. Let's hope the early goal doesn't signal a one-way encounter." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

1217: Goal - Rangers 1-0 St Mirren
Oh my, with just 74 seconds gone a shot from Kris Boyd is blocked and falls kindly for Andrius Velicka , who prods the ball high into the net from seven yards. That's three goals in three games for the Lithuanian international forward.

1216: And we're off.

1213: Not long to go before kick off. What do you make of the ridiculously early start? Surely, a prestigious semi final should be getting underway at 3 o'clock.

"Surely some common sense should prevail at the SFA. The semi final games are not going to sell out, so reduce operating costs and increase the atmosphere, and have them staged at Tynecastle/Easter Road... Oh wait, I forgot, the SFA don't do common sense." GlasgowJambo1987 on My Sport

1210: My colleague Andy Campbell has been busy digging out some background information on the teams.

The first stats of out Andy's hat are: Rangers last failed to progress from a semi-final in 2004 when Hibernian triumphed on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

St Mirren's last appearance in a Hampden semi-final was during the League Cup competition of season 2000/01 when they lost 3-0 to Kilmarnock.

Keep 'em coming Andy...

1205: With Sasa Papac suspended and Kirk Broadfoot injured, Steven Whittaker moves across to left-back and Christian Dailly makes a rare outing at right-back for Rangers.

"Disappointed that Dailly is playing today, why not keep Whittaker at right back, move Smith to his natural left back, and play either Fleck, Aaron or Naismith on the left of midfield? Seems we are keeping with the idea of constantly playing players out of position, not ideal at all." memnoch666 on My Sport.
Join the debate on My Sport1202: "There's not a soul in the top-tier of the main stand and a big empty section in the St Mirren end of the ground. The pre-match atmosphere is very flat." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

A crowd of 25-30,000 is expected at the national stadium.

1158: TEAM LINE-UPS:

Rangers: Alexander, Dailly, Bougherra, Weir, Whittaker, Davis, Mendes, Edu, Steven Smith, Boyd, Velicka. Subs: McGregor, Novo, Miller, Little, Wilson.

St Mirren: Howard, Ross, Haining, Cuthbert, Camara, Dorman, Thomson, Murray, McGinn, Mehmet, Wyness. Subs: Mathers, Hamilton, Brady, Potter, Burns.

1154: Striker Billy Mehmet has recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the St Mirren attack alongside Dennis Wyness. Craig Dargo misses out altogether due to injury, while Jim Hamilton drops to the bench.

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor features on the bench for the Ibrox club. It is the first time McGregor has been named in a match-day squad since being subject to a club suspension for a breach of discipline. Neil Alexander starts in goal for Walter Smith's side.

"I'm sure Allan McGregor will be sitting on his hands this time when the cameras inevitably focus on him." David McDaid, BBC Sport online at Hampden.

1150: Good day to you all and welcome to our coverage of the first of the weekend's Scottish Cup semi finals.

Rangers start as strong favourites against St Mirren as the Ibrox side remain on course for a 33rd triumph in the tournament.

The Paisley outfit have lifted the trophy three times, the last success coming in 1987, while 39 points separate the teams in the Scottish Premier League.

However, the meetings between the sides this season have been keenly-contested affairs, with just one goal the difference on each occasion and the Buddies winning one of the three matches.

So, can Gus MacPherson's team cause an upset at Hampden and even up the head-to-head record for the term?

BBC Radio Scotland's coverage from the national stadium is available online and you can see highlights on BBC One Scotland at 2230 BST.

You all know the drill by now; send your comments to My Sport and via text on 80295 . I'll use the best ones here.
