Ferguson was dropped from the Rangers side last week |
Barry Ferguson returned to the Rangers midfield for Sunday's Scottish Cup visit to Dunfermline but was not wearing the captain's armband. Ferguson was stripped of the captaincy and dropped last week by Paul Le Guen, who resigned as manager soon after.
Under interim manager Ian Durrant, Gavin Rae continued to lead the team.
"Barry is a talented footballer and someone I want out there," Durrant told BBC Sport. "It (the captaincy) is down to whoever takes over."
Scotland manager Walter Smith is expected to return to Ibrox and that could be good news for Ferguson, who skippers the national side.
