Fernando Ricksen played at Ibrox for Zenit

His new side, Zenit St Petersburg, beat Rangers 4-1 at Ibrox in a friendly as part of his year-long loan deal.

"I have nothing to prove," he said about his controversial departure. "I won enough here.

"I never have any regrets and am happy to be playing for this club now and am looking forward."

Ricksen underwent "anger management" at an addiction clinic after being sent home from a pre-season tour following an argument with an air hostess.

New Rangers manager Paul Le Guen decided that Ricksen did not figure in his plans.

And the 30-year-old decided to join up with former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat in Russia.

"I'm settling in very well and learning Russian," he said.

"It's a beautiful country and the club is good and trying to make me feel at home.

"It was best for both parties and I think it was a good decision to make a new start where I won't be judged on my past."

Ricksen signed a one-year loan but has an option to join Zenit for a further two years at the end of the season.

However, he said it was too soon to decide where his future lay after next summer.

"I will focus on this year, playing well and impressing Zenit or other clubs, but I also know what I have got at Rangers," he said.

Meanwhile, Ricksen was delighted to see Rangers defeat Hearts on Saturday after suffering two draws.

"That should give them a lift and I was very happy to see Kris Boyd given a start," he said.

"It's a shame to leave a player like that on the bench and I was delighted to see him do what he does best by scoring two goals.
