QPR swoop for Wayne Routledge and Pascal Chimbonda
Routledge and Chimbonda have both signed until the end of the season
Queens Park Rangers have signed winger Wayne Routledge from Newcastle on loan and landed former Blackburn defender Pascal Chimbonda on a free transfer.
Both contracts are until the end of the season, with Routledge returning to his former club, while France cap Chimbonda was released by Rovers this week.
"Wayne needs an arm around him. He is a super lad and a super player," QPR boss Neil Warnock told the club website.
"To get someone of Pascal's experience and quality is a massive boost."
In his 12 months on Tyneside, 25-year-old Routledge made a total of 26 appearances, scoring three goals.
The former England Under-21 international began his career at Crystal Palace and also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa before signing for Rangers after a loan spell at Cardiff City in January 2009.
After moving to Tyneside a year later he helped Newcastle secure the Championship title at the first attempt.
"I'm really pleased to be back here," he said.
"QPR have made a great start to the season and I'm really looking forward to playing some games and helping the club push on during the remainder of the season."
Former France international Chimbonda, 31, has also had spells at Wigan, Tottenham and Sunderland.
He was released from his Rovers contract by manager Steve Kean after 25 league appearances in two years following his £2m transfer from Spurs.
"This is a good opportunity for me to be re-born as a footballer," he said.
"The style of football that QPR play suits me, and this will provide a good challenge for me."
