Queens Park Rangers midfielder Hogan Ephraim insists he did not elbow Frank Songo'o during Saturday's defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
The club are considering contesting the red card shown during the 2-1 loss.
Ephraim told BBC London 94.9: "I don't feel it was a red card. At most it was a yellow for the tackle but the referee says it was for an elbow.
"I didn't go in with an elbow, I thought it was going to be a yellow card for where our feet connected."
He added: "I think that maybe the crowd at the end were buzzing and that swayed his decision."
The result was only Rangers' second defeat in eight matches and it all but ended their hopes of making a late play-off charge.
Ephraim, 19, says the team have always been more concerned with the gap to the relegation zone, which is now only six points.
He added: "I don't think anyone really expected us to get into the play-offs.
"We were the last team in the Football League to get a win this season so if we had have done that it would have been remarkable.
"So we'll just keep going, get to 50 points and push on from there."
