Chaplow has scored once for Preston this season against Leicester
Preston midfielder Richard Chaplow has played down the impact of dwindling attendances at Deepdale.
More than 12,500 supporters watched North End's draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend, their fourth highest gate in the league this season.
"It doesn't affect the team although it's nice when there's a big crowd," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"It's great to get an atmosphere but it's [lower attendance] to be expected the way things are financially."
Striker Chris Brown offered similar sentiments.
"It's easy for us to say why aren't the fans coming, but there's a crisis in the world and you have to look at outside influences," he said.
"The bottom line is people just can't afford to come and if that's the case then who are we to say that they're wrong for doing that.
"All I can say is that everyone appreciates those who come to the games. It's brilliant that even though there is a recession people are still willing to take the time out to come and watch us play football."
Chaplow also admitted he is not worried after receiving criticism from a small section of supporters over his recent performances.
The 24-year-old, who joined Preston from West Brom in January 2008, accepts it is part and parcel of the modern game.
"You're always going to get that in football," he said.
"There are people who don't think you're a good player and others who have a different view.
"But I've got nothing to prove. If I'm fit I'll play well and try and help the team do well.
"It's up to the fans if they take to someone or not. But we work as a team here and we're looking to push on and if the fans can get with us then that's good."
