Brown delighted to get game-time

Defender Wayne Brown has revealed that he jumped at the chance to join Preston on loan after being told he was surplus to requirements by Hull.

The 31-year-old former Ipswich, Watford and Colchester centre-back joined Championship side North End for an initial month on Monday.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It took no consideration whatsoever.

"The Hull manager [Phil Brown] has made it clear that I don't feature in his plans at the moment."

"You can have a good look at the club [Preston], the club can have a good look at you. It's beneficial for both parties. If you do well and the club want to sign you then so be it."

Brown admitted the move to Deepdale had come at a good time.

"I'm not the sort of lad that's going to stick around and pick his dough up week in and week out. I want to play football."

He made his Preston debut in the 2-0 victory over Watford on Tuesday having just met his team-mates shortly before kick-off.

"It was a bit strange when you walk in the changing room and don't really know anybody. But, wherever you go in football the banter is always the same.

"It would have been ideal if I had come here at the start of the week and had at least one training session with the lads."

Following the permanent signing of Anthony Gardner from Tottenham and the loan capture of Kamil Zayatte from Young Boys, Brown has found his chances limited in the Premier League to one appearance, a 5-0 defeat by Wigan in August.

"I didn't realise how costly it was going to be for me. For him [Phil Brown] to turn around and judge my ability on one game in the Premier League is a little bit harsh."
