Preston defender Billy Jones was delighted to open his scoring account for North End in Tuesday's Championship victory over Watford.
The 21-year-old, who was used in midfield for the first time under manager Alan Irvine, scored the opening goal in the 2-0 victory at Deepdale.
"I was happy to get on the scoresheet," Jones told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"After the performances at Plymouth and Sheffield United we definitely deserved something so it was a massive boost."
And he admitted he was surprised when he was chosen out of position in the starting line-up.
"I was shocked to be honest," said the Shrewsbury-born player.
"When the manager named Sean St Ledger at right-back and Jay McEvilly at left-back I thought I wasn't playing.
"But once I got my head round it I was looking forward to it.
"Obviously it's a position where you can work really hard and try to influence the game. And to get a goal was great."
