Preston centre-half Youl Mawene has agreed a new deal which will keep him at Deepdale until 2010. The 28-year-old, who missed all of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, also has the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.
Boss Paul Simpson said: "I know what a good player he can be and I'm delighted that he has agreed to stay.
"He is a leader and the sort of character encorages others and having him fit and available is real bonus."
Mawene joined North End in July 2004 and was the club's player of the year in his first season.
