Portsmouth boss Avram Grant admits receiving job offers

Portsmouth boss Avram Grant says he has been approached by other clubs about becoming their manager but felt he could not walk away from Fratton Park.

This season Grant has had to deal with ongoing financial chaos, administration and relegation, while still guiding Portsmouth to the FA Cup final.

"I stayed here because my heart told me to stay, but I don't want to have another season like this," he said.

"There are other opportunities but I didn't jump as soon as I could."

Speaking ahead of Portsmouth's final home Premier League game, against Wolves, the former Chelsea manager said he enjoyed the challenge of adversity - up to a point.

"I stayed here because my heart told me to stay, but I don't want to have another season like this," said Grant.

"It was very tough and I like to work in football and deal with football problems.

"Sometimes financial problems are part of the game. But when it's like this, it's not good for me and it's not good for the club."

And having revealed the interest from other clubs, he refused to be drawn on where his future might lie beyond the end of the season.

"I'm waiting to see what will happen, but at the moment, it looks like it is going the right way - let's wait and see," he said.

One of the conditions for the Israeli staying on at Portsmouth in the Championship, appears to be a measure of financial stability and certainty after a season in which bad news has followed the club at every turn.

"For me as a manager, I need to come to the team before the season and say 'what's the budget for this season, can we spend this, can we spend that?'," said Grant.

"If the budget is £100 or £100m, it is the same. I can still build a good team if I know what's happening.

"The most dangerous thing is when you don't know what will happen and you don't know how much money you can spend or not spend."
