Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has criticised the Football Association for charging the club for transfers involving ex-striker Benjani.
Pompey and agent Willie MacKay have been charged with a breach of rules over the purchase and sale of Benjani.
"Farcical is what we call it," Storrie told the BBC Radio Solent fans' forum.
"It's a technicality on a rule. Apparently we're supposed to know that this agent was paid a fee by Auxerre two years ago."
He added: "I don't know how we're supposed to know it, but we're supposed to know it.
"I can't go into any more details other than we are going to enjoy fighting this one."
