Pompey ready to let Nugent leave
Portsmouth striker David Nugent
Nugent signed for Portsmouth in July for 6m
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has admitted David Nugent could leave after starting only two league games following a 6m move from Preston.

Nugent, 22, scored his first goal for Pompey in the 3-0 win against Leeds in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

But Redknapp confirmed he could be on the move, with Derby interested.

He said: "Sometimes when you are trying to raise money you have to sell someone you don't really want to sell. That could be David but it could be others."

Redknapp added: "What we need is somebody who can get us 15 to 20 goals a season and if we can do some good business and improve the team we will."

Pompey signed Nugent for 6m in July from Preston, but after starting the first two games of the season, he was on the bench for the last two.

Nugent is now a target for Derby where he would link up with Billy Davies, his former boss at Preston.

Redknapp said: "He's a young player and obviously he wants to play but at the moment Kanu has been absolutely brilliant, John Utaka's a threat and Benjani does well.

Newspaper reports suggest Redknapp wants to sign 12m-rated Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka - but he may have to sell before he buys.
