David Nugent got off the mark as Portsmouth eased past Leeds to move into the Carling Cup third round. Nico Kranjca hit the post for Pompey but they had to wait until just before the break to go ahead when Noe Pamarot deflected in a Pedro Mendes shot.
Pamorot's powerful header made it 2-0 and summer signing Nugent sidefooted in the third from close range late on to finally end hopes of a Leeds comeback.
Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford both went close for the visitors.
