Perry Deakin has been appointed as the new chief executive of Port Vale.
Deakin has previously worked at Birmingham City, Wolves and Derby County and will succeed chairman Bill Bratt in the role on Monday.
"I've been thoroughly impressed with the chairman, the club and the staff so I'm really looking forward to it," Deakin told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I don't think the club's doing a poor job commercially, but I think there's some potential to drive it onwards."
He continued: "I've got a very strong commercial background and I think that will be important in moving the club forward.
"We'll be investigating every single revenue stream available and we'll hope to do something with them.
"It's not as if we're starting from scratch - I've got a really nice foundation and base to start from."
Vale are currently in the play-off places in League Two and Deakin acknowledges that success on the field will make it slightly easier to increase commercial revenue.
"Promotion, of course, will help, particularly in terms of ticketing and retail," he added.
"Commercial clients are looking for more than simply a game of football, they're looking for all-round entertainment.
"The plans that we have in terms of generating revenue will happen, regardless of the division we operate in.
"But fingers crossed, we're in the play-offs at the moment and let's hope we stay there at the very least."
