Port Vale prospects look good, says manager Jim Gannon

Port Vale manager Jim Gannon believes he does not have to make huge changes to his team in order to win promotion.

Gannon, who was appointed on Thursday, watched his new team lose 4-2 at Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday.

"There's not a lot wrong here," he told BBC Radio Stoke. "I'm looking forward to preparing well this week and showing this team is a force for promotion."

Vale are fourth in League Two, one point behind second-placed Rotherham and six behind leaders Chesterfield.

They were due to face Hereford at Vale Park on Tuesday, but the Bulls' involvement in the FA Cup in midweek means that game has now been postponed.

Their second-round tie at Lincoln had fallen victim to the adverse weather before Christmas and could not be played until third-round weekend.

Mathieu Manset's winner booked a third-round date with fellow League Two side Wycombe on Tuesday.

Vale's next fixture is now on Saturday, against an improving Crewe side at the Alexandra Stadium.

"The great thing for me is that we've got a week's training," said Gannon. "In the last five games we've lost four of them and uncharacteristically the team has conceded goals.

"Crewe are in good form and we know it's going to be a great game for everybody."
