Port Vale need discipline against Crewe - Horsfield
Horsfield won promotion through the play-offs with Birmingham in 2002
Port Vale assistant manager Geoff Horsfield has urged the players to keep their cool in Saturday's derby game against Crewe.
Horsfield insists the team cannot risk picking up any red cards in the first derby game of the season.
The ex-Birmingham and West Brom striker told BBC Radio Stoke:"We must keep a clear head and not get too pumped up.
"We don't want them to pull out of challenges but we do want 11 players on the pitch to hopefully go on and win."
The Vale have slipped to second in the table after drawing their last three games while in contrast Crewe are 11 games unbeaten and have moved up to seventh.
Horsfield sees Saturday's derby as a chance to kick-start their season and regain their top spot.
The 36-year-old said: "We need to set the tempo and go at them at 100mph. Form goes out of the window and we want to win the game, we want the bragging rights."
Vale could field up to five former Crewe players on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson, defenders Adam Yates and Ritchie Sutton all came through the Crewe academy along with midfielder Gary Roberts.
Topscorer Marc Richards spent a short time on-loan at Gresty Road in 2002 when he was a Blackburn Rovers trainee.
