Richards is Vale's top scorer this season with nine goals
Striker Marc Richards has said that he should have given Port Vale the lead moments before they went behind in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat by Huddersfield.
The 27-year-old shot wide from close range shortly before Nathan Clarke scored the only goal of the game at Vale Park on Saturday.
"I should be scoring those chances," Richards told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I'm gutted for the lads, because if we'd have scored that, we could have possibly gone on to win the game."
Richards was substituted in the 78th minute, a move that was greeted by cheers from the Vale Park crowd.
"I've had one chance and I've missed, so no doubt I'll be getting criticised," added the former Barnsley man.
"The fans pay their money, they have their opinion, and rightly so."
Richards, who began his career at Blackburn, is Vale's top scorer this season with nine goals, although he has not found the net since the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham on 24 October.
"I'll look at the DVD and think about what I could have done better, so it's not forgotten about. It's something that will play on my mind," said Richards.
"I criticise myself quite a lot, but I'm always trying to improve my game and my finishing."
