Vale trialist Thornton spent three months on loan at Brighton last season
League Two side Port Vale have taken former Coventry City midfielder Kevin Thornton on trial.
The Irishman, 23, left the Sky Blues in the summer after coming through the youth system at the Ricoh Arena.
He scored the only goal in a 1-0 friendly win against Stafford Rangers at Marston Road on Saturday.
Thornton is well-known to Port Vale boss Micky Adams, having played under him at Coventry and during a loan spell at Brighton last season.
He broke into the Coventry first team in the 2005-06 season, and made 50 league appearances for the club in all, although 31 of those came as a substitute.
Adams has yet to make a decision on whether he will offer contracts to three other trialists - Stuart Tomlinson, Lassana Sidibe and Kris Taylor - who have been at Vale Park for over a week.
