Midfielder Brown seals Vale move

Cheltenham Town midfielder Scott Brown has joined League Two side Port Vale on loan until January.

The 23-year-old, who has completed a week-long trial at Vale Park, goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

Vale manager Dean Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "Scott has trained well all week and is looking for games.

"We know a lot about him and his reputation. We know what he's capable of. He's a good footballer."

Merseyside-born former England youth international Brown, who started his career on the books at Everton, spent three seasons at Bristol City, for whom he made his league debut.

He was signed by John Ward at Cheltenham initially on loan in January 2007, but then broke his leg just a day after completing his move.

"I was told that I might not play again," said Brown. "But, after undergoing an operation I was told I would make a full recovery."

Brown came back over the second half of last season, but he has only featured once this season under new Cheltenham boss Martin Allen.

"It's good to get away from a club where you're not wanted and be given the chance to play," he said. "I'm raring to go.

"I now feel better than I have done at any time in the past 18 months."
