Port Vale midfielder Shane Tudor says he is determined to impress manager Lee Sinnott in the club's pre-season games.
Tudor has fought back from a seven-month abscence after undergoing surgery on his knee.
The 26-year-old managed just eight starts last season, but played for 45 minutes in the Valiants' match with Farsley Celtic on Tuesday.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "Looking at my old injury inspires me to succeed and I aim to be ready for August."
Tudor will hope to be involved in Vale's next pre-season friendly, away to Newcastle Town on Saturday.
Lee Sinnott will also assess the injuries to Luke Rodgers, Steve Thompson, Paul Edwards and Ross Davidson, none of whom travelled to Farsley.
Meanwhile, the club have taken young Australian winger Chris Tadrosse on trial.
The 22-year-old was on the books of German side Borussia Moenchengladbach last season.
