Defender McCombe was released by Hereford following promotion

Port Vale have confirmed the signing of former Hereford United defender John McCombe on a two-year deal.

McCombe was recently released by the Bulls, despite making 27 appearances last season as they won promotion.

The 23-year-old is boss Lee Sinnott's sixth summer signing, joining Anthony Griffiths, Rob Taylor, Steve Thompson, Sam Stockley and David Howland.

McCombe told BBC Radio Stoke: "I want to join a promotion winning team again, I think I've joined the right club."
