Foyle decides to leave Port Vale

The former Vale striker was the youth team coach when he succeeded Brian Horton in February 2004 and signed a new two-year contract in March 2006.

Port Vale have had a poor start to the season and are in 23rd place in League One with only five points from their opening seven matches.

Assistant manager Dean Glover will take charge of the team for Saturday's home game against Southend.

Foyle became a legend in his nine years as a player at Vale Park, during which he became the club's record post-war goalscorer - hitting the net 107 times.

He said: "I have been in charge for three-and-a-half years and have enjoyed the management role and have learnt so much in a short space of time.
