Former Plymouth Argyle chairman Dan McCauley has said he would consider purchasing the ailing club's stadium to help preserve their immediate future.

Plymouth were deducted 10 points on Tuesday after they issued a 'notice of intention' to appoint an administrator.

"I would think about it [buying the stadium]," McCauley told BBC Spotlight. "I don't know what the bank would think about it, but I have got money.

"I've got control of what I wish to do if there is the opportunity there."

He continued: "But they [Argyle] have got no income, that's the trouble.

"How are they going to pay the rent? That's what it comes down to."

McCauley owned the Devon club for 10 years before stepping down as chairman in 2001.

The cash-strapped outfit are now bottom of League One after receiving the 10-point penalty for issuing a 'notice of intention'.

The notice is classed as an 'insolvency event' which breaks Football League sanctions and commands the automatic penalty.

Plymouth have been the subject of three winding-up petitions from HM Revenue & Customs this season, and the players are still awaiting their January wages having been paid late in both November and December.
