Plymouth Argyle are planning to re-lay the Home Park pitch at the end of this season.

The Pilgrims game with Barnsley was abandoned last Saturday just before the hour mark because of waterlogging.

Colin Wheatcroft, the head groundsman at Home Park, told BBC Spotlight: "It's almost 90% sure we'll have a new pitch.

"We've had experts down and they say that we can lay a new pitch and our board of directors say it's likely we'll have a new pitch next season."

The decision by referee Gavin Ward to call off last Saturday's game was criticised by Barnsley manager Mark Robins.

But Wheatcroft felt that the referee made the right decision on the rain soaked afternoon.

"At half time I went to the referee and he asked me where the water is going to stand the most, and I said in the middle," said Wheatcroft.

"I said if the rain abates it will go down and I think you could carry on - and he said alright we'll go out and give it another go.

"I said if the rain gets heavier you'll have to call it off and that actually happened - it got worse."
