Sturrock pleased with Cardiff win

Paul Sturrock was happy at the way Argyle went about their 2-1 win

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock was pleased with the way his side played in Saturday's 2-1 lunchtime victory over Cardiff City.

First-half goals from Paul Gallacher and Emile Mpenza helped Argyle close in on the Championship play-off places.

They now stand level on points with sixth-placed Cardiff.

And Sturrock told BBC Radio Devon: "I'm very pleased. Everybody responded to the work we've done. We got in their faces and made it difficult for them."

He added: "Everybody knew their jobs and everybody went about their jobs."

After failing to win any of their three home games this season at Home Park, Argyle have now lost just once at home in their last six games.

At one stage, without a win in their first six league and cup games, they were bottom of the Championship in September.

But they have now picked up 26 points from a possible 39 over the last two months to emerge as genuine promotion contenders.

Argyle now face a tough trip on Tuesday night (25 November, 1945 GMT) to an improving Southampton side who will be buoyant from their best win of the season on Saturday - a 2-1 triumph at Reading.
