Plymouth Argyle's Hungarian defender Krisztian Timar may need surgery after sustaining a head injury in the 1-0 defeat at Wolves on Sunday.
Timar fractured his forehead after a clash of heads with Wolves defender George Elokobi during the second half.
He spent the night in hospital and has an indentation above his eye which is the size of a 2 coin.
"He will probably need an operation at some stage," Argyle physio Paul Maxwell told the club's website.
Timar has returned to the West Country and is expected to see specialists at Plymouth's Derriford hospital in the next few days.
But Maxwell believes the injury could have been a lot worse.
"His forehead is like double glazing, the outer part is cracked by the blow but the inner part, the important bit, is unaffected."
Timar joined Argyle in May 2007 for 75,000 from Hungarian side Ferencvaros and has made 36 starts for Plymouth this season.
