Matthias Doumbe joined Hibs from Paris St Germain |
Hibernian defender Matthias Doumbe will follow former manager Bobby Williamson to Plymouth Argyle. The Edinburgh outfit have confirmed that Doumbe has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club promoted to England's First Division.
Doumbe's contract with Hibs expires next month, when he will move to Plymouth on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old Frenchman arrived at Hibs in 2001 from Paris St Germain and had also been linked with Rangers.
But former Hibs boss Alex McLeish instead tied up deals to take central defenders Jean-Alain Boumsong and Marvin Andrews to Ibrox in the summer.
Doumbe was in recent days offered a three-year contract with Hibs that would have made him one of the higher paid players at the club.
But he travelled to Home Park earlier this week and agreed to join Argyle.
Hibs chief executive Rod Petrie told his club's website: "This is disappointing news. "We have been in talks with Matthias since November of last year, when we put an offer on the table that would have made him one of our higher-paid players.
"It was a three-year deal which, in the current climate, represents a long-term deal offering a high level of security.
"We understood he and his agents were coming back for further discussions before making any decision to move and it is disappointing that has not happened.
"However, that is football, and the club will get on with business."
