Doumbe has been impressive this season |
Hibernian have made defender Mathias Kouo Doumbe a final offer to extend his stay at Easter Road. The 24-year-old Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and will be free to find a new club.
"Mathias knows the club has made the best offer it can and it is now in the hands of the player," said Hibernian managing director Rod Petrie.
Petrie denied that Doumbe, who arrived in Edinburgh from Paris St Germain in 2001, had agreed a move to Rangers.
"We became aware stories were circulating that Mathias had effectively signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers but the manager spoke with Rangers and I spoke with the players' agent and there were denials all round," continued Petrie.
A move to Rangers appears unlikely as they have already agreed deals to bring central defenders Alain Boumsong and Marvin Andrews to Glasgow in the summer.
