Peterborough United have cancelled the contract of experienced midfielder Dean Keates by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old, whose deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has not played since the arrival of new manager Mark Cooper.

Keates was a member of the Posh side that won back-to-back promotions to the Championship under Darren Ferguson.

Director of football Barry Fry told the club website: "Dean has played a massive role in our recent successes."

He added: "He has given tremendous service to this football club.

"He has always given 100% in his performances and I am sure the supporters recognise his achievements."

Keates joined Posh on a free transfer from Walsall in 2007 and scored 11 goals in 96 appearances for the club, including netting in the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle in October which proved to be his final game.

Meanwhile, defender Tommy Williams is back at London Road after his loan spell at QPR came to an end.
