Ferguson proud of Posh fightback

Darren Ferguson
Ferguson says Posh can still challenge for promotion

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson says his team have set down a marker with their second half fightback against Reading on Saturday.

Posh came back from two goals down to win 3-2 - their first Championship victory of the season.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I won't need to say much to may players ahead of Newcastle on Tuesday.

"I'm proud of what they achieved, they could have gone under at 2-0 down but showed great character."

Posh were outplayed during the first 45 minutes, but Ferguson rang the changes at half-time.

Dean Keates and Lee Frecklington came on in place of Toumani Diagouraga and Chris Whelpdale as they switched to a 4-3-3 formation.

"Perhaps I should have changed the formation earlier, but I'm getting sick of conceding soft goals," Ferguson said.

Posh host Newcastle in the third round of League Cup on Tuesday having already dispensed with Wycombe and Ipswich.

"It should be a great atmosphere for Newcastle, they're a fantastic club with great traditions," Ferguson said.

"But we want to win and we want a good cup run and they've shown what they can do against Reading."
