No Wigan approach for Posh boss

Barry Fry
Fry believes Swansea boss Roberto Martinez will take over at Wigan

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry insists the club have had no contact from Wigan regarding manager Darren Ferguson.

Athletic could be looking for a new manager with current boss Steve Bruce thought to be set to join Sunderland.

Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've only had one enquiry and that was from Reading.

"I'm close to Steve Bruce, he tells me [Swansea's Roberto] Martinez is going to Wigan and I believe Steve Bruce."

He continued: "He's a big name and a lot of players we're talking to are coming because of Darren Ferguson. We don't want to lose him.

"Obviously if anyone comes in from the Premiership it's mega money and all that but no-one has at the minute so until then we'll wait and see."

Despite the distraction regarding his future Ferguson has been keeping an eye on transfer targets. Fry is hopeful two players will come to London Road by the end of the week.

One would be a long-term loan deal and newspaper speculation has linked West Ham striker Freddy Sears with a move.

Fry said: "We would like to put that one to bed because there's other clubs talking to this individual. He was very impressed with what Darren had to say and we're very anxious to sign the paperwork."

Posh are set to make an offer for a second player but are refusing to meet the £500,000 asking price.
