Posh can win promotion - Ferguson

Darren Ferguson
Ferguson has been in charge at London Road since 2007

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson claims his side are beginning to truly believe they can win promotion from League One.

Posh, currently second, strengthened their cause with last night's 2-1 win over Scunthorpe, with third placed MK Dons only drawing with Huddersfield.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "The players can smell promotion now, it's a really happy dressing room.

"The chairman was delighted with the win, just as everyone else."

Posh are five points ahead of the MK Dons following their 2-1 win over Scunthorpe, but have played three more matches.

Ferguson chose to name the same side which beat Hartlepool on Saturday with Sergio Torres and George Boyd supporting Aaron Mclean in a three man attack

But switched back to 4-4-2 at half-time with top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith coming in up front.

"Scunthorpe were the best team we've played this season during the first half, I was glad to be just one goal down," Ferguson said.

"But we're now 12 points ahead of them and that's a big gap so we just need to keep winning games and see where we are on May 2nd."
