Newton joined Posh in 2002

Winger Adam Newton has had his contract at Peterborough United cancelled by mutual consent and will join League Two side Brentford from 1 July.

Newton, 27, has been at Posh for over six years but was put on the club's transfer list in May.

He featured 26 times in the league last season but the arrival of Russell Martin at London Road has seen him drop down the pecking order.

Newton has signed a one-year deal with Brentford and will join them next week.
