Oxford United have completed the signing of Simon Clist from Forest Green Rovers for a nominal fee.

But the 27-year-old midfielder, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, will not be permitted to play for Oxford against Forest Green next month.

Clist, who lives in West Oxfordshire, told BBC Oxford: "I'm really looking forward to getting going here."

U's boss Chris Wilder told BBC Oxford: "He is a player who I think will bring great quality to us."

Oxford are also talking to Shrewsbury Town about the possibility of James Constable extending his stay at the Kassam Stadium, where he is currently on loan.

But the club do not expect to tie him up on a more permanent footing until the end of the season.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "In all likelihood that will not be completed until the summer.

"But we can assure supporters we are working towards bringing the best players that are available to the club."
