Oxford United groundsman Nick Baldwin has finished second in the annual Groundsman of the Year awards in the Football Conference.

Baldwin was pipped to the prize by Bognor Regis Town's Eddie Broadbent.

After the wettest August on record, Baldwin told BBC Oxford that he was one of the few people enjoying themselves in the rainy weather.

"After the season you renovate the pitch, the week afterwards we had so much rain it help with the growing."

Baldwin took over the role from longstanding groundsman David Wedge who passed away in 2007 at his home in Oxford.

"I worked with David for four years on a part-time basis, I got on well with him, he was a great character. He's always there, I always think about him."
