Oldham Athletic have signed midfielder Ritchie Jones on a free transfer following his release by Hartlepool.

The 23-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Boundary Park with the Latics after turning down an offer from a Championship club.

Manager Paul Dickov told the club's website: "We feel very lucky to have brought in Ritchie.

"He has a lot of experience, but he is also young, hungry to succeed and has a good work ethic."

Jones added: "I was impressed with the manager's ambitions and what he had to say.

"I am happy to be coming here and can't wait to get started and to do well."
