Dickov beat nine other shortlisted candidates to the job
Paul Dickov has said his honesty in the interview landed him the Oldham Athletic managerial position.
The 37-year-old ex-Manchester City and Scotland striker has signed a 12-month rolling deal after Latics parted company with Dave Penney last month.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: "People had asked me to say various things and ask various questions.
"But I decided not to because I felt I would have been giving a false impression of me."
He added: "I wanted to go in and let them know who I was, what I'm all about and what I want to do, just let them have an honest opinion of me and it seemed to work.
"Maybe when I went into the interview I was relaxed because I didn't think I was going to get the job.
"I had spoken to a few people in the game before I had the interview and they said 'Look, go along if that's the route you want to go down and just take the experience of talking to owners of clubs, board members and chief executives for future reference'."
