Sheridan's Latics are in fifth spot, 19 points adrift of League One top spot
Oldham boss John Sheridan has admitted he cannot work out why his side lost to Bristol Rovers.
Latics' 2-0 midweek defeat, their seventh league reverse of the season, left them seven points adrift of automatic promotion in League One.
Sheridan told BBC Radio Manchester: "I honestly can't put my finger on what went wrong.
"We were fourth going into the game and confidence should be sky high. We just keep shooting ourselves in the foot."
He added: "The players make things very hard for themselves and make things very hard for me. But I am the manager - if there is any criticism, it can come my way.
"I am disappointed sometimes when I am watching good players how they play. To win games, we've got to show more confidence and belief in ourselves."
