Oldham Athletic have signed veteran striker Dean Windass, 39, on loan from Hull for the remainder of the season.
Windass, whose goal in the play-off final last May earned Hull their Premier League place, has scored one league goal this season.
Windass told BBC Sport: "I'm really disappointed with the way it's turned out, I never wanted to leave."
Windass only needs two more goals to reach the significant mark of 200 in all league matches.
"Hull City's close to my heart and always will be," Windass added.
Hull City Fanzine editor Ian Farrow told BBC Look North: "Deano will always be a hero to City fans.
"He's been there in good times and bad times. He was there at our greatest moment and was a very big part of it."
As well as three spells with the Tigers, Windass has played for Oxford United, Aberdeen, Bradford, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.
