Sheridan thinks Lomax can be a regular in Oldham's starting line up
Oldham boss John Sheridan has singled out Kelvin Lomax for praise after a third successive League One victory.
The 3-2 win against Walsall took Oldham into fourth spot and the Latics manager was quick to laud his full-back.
Sheridan told BBC Radio Manchester: "The best player on the pitch was Kelvin Lomax, he was excellent and he is getting very mature in his game.
"He has proved he needs to stay in the team and the way he is playing he will be staying," he added.
"Kelvin is a very intelligent footballer. He knows he has to improve on his defending and you can see in training he is improving.
"He is very comfortable on the ball and usually makes the right decisions but his defending hasn't been as good.
"I'm very pleased for him now because I've left him out unfairly and he's not the type of lad who'll come in and bang on my door.
"But he does need to start growing up and I've told him to start believing in himself and, if he is left out, come and bang on my door and ask why he was left out."
