Notts County manager Ian McParland said his side's defending "wasn't good enough" after they let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Torquay.
Goals from Craig Westcarr and Ben Davies put the home side in control but the Gulls battled back for a point.
McParland told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The first half we were brilliant and the game should have been out of sight. The second half was disappointing.
"If you're not switched on and don't mark, you get punished."
"Not many teams score against us in open play," he continued.

"The only way they caused us problems was with a corner or a long throw."
The result has moved Notts up to fifth in League Two and they face third-placed Rotherham on Saturday.
