Notts County midfielder Richard Butcher is expected to be out of the first team until February after a scan confirmed he has a fractured metatarsal.
The Magpies' top scorer picked up the foot injury in the 1-1 draw with Kettering in the FA Cup second round.
He is due to undergo surgery on the problem on Wednesday.
"I'm really frustrated at picking up this injury and right now it's just a case of getting my head round everything," he told the club website.
"I'll be adopting a positive frame of mind and be putting everything into my rehab to make sure I'm back in action as soon as possible."
