Notts County have named Steve Thompson as their new manager in succession to succeed Gudjon Thordarson, who left the club by mutual consent last month. Thompson, who was previously in charge of the club alongside Colin Murphy from June 1995 to December 1996, has signed a three-year deal.
Thompson was one of five candidates interviewed for the post.
"It's a cliche, but to be back in management with Notts County is a dream come true," he told the club website.
He has also managed Lincoln, Southend and Cambridge while he was also caretaker boss at Sheffield United.
Thompson added: "It's a great challenge, I want to kick-start my career and to be successful I've got to win games and secure promotions and hopefully that will be with Notts."
