Notts County manager Gary Mills has been relieved of his duties - but is considering the offer of another position, reports BBC Radio Nottingham. Midfielder Ian Richardson, the Magpies' longest-serving player, has been appointed as caretaker-boss, with coach John Gaunt as his assistant.
There is no indication yet about the future of assistant boss Darron Gee.
Mills was appointed to succeed Billy Dearden in January, but was unable to prevent relegation last season.
County have since made a disappointing start to the campaign in League Two, dropping to 21st place - just five points off the bottom - after last Saturday's 5-1 defeat at Rushden & Diamonds.
Mills, formerly first-team coach at Coventry, had vowed to fight on after criticism from fans during that game.
Richardson will take charge of the team for Saturday's game against fellow strugglers Shrewsbury.
Three of the bottom four clubs in League Two - County, Shrewsbury and Kidderminster - have now parted company with their managers in the last fortnight.
